The structure of the event is to introduce students to various challenges, have them self-select teammates from other schools, engage in an active design process, build and test their design, and finally provide a presentation to \u201csell\u201d their solution to a select set of judges.<br \/>\n  <br \/>\n  Young Scholars Invent is not a Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) competition. Students may use CAD software to communicate design attributes within their presentations, but it is not a requirement of Young Scholars Invent. However, we do advise that all students bring a laptop computer, as it will be used heavily for research and presentation creation.<br \/>\n  <br \/>\n  Young Scholars Invent is not a competition to showcase the best school in the state. Schools will not be going head-to-head in the challenge. Rather, the challenge focuses on simulating industry environments, where individuals work collaboratively to generate ideas and solutions from a diverse group of cultures and expertise. This new partnership between Rice University, the Digital Health Institute, and Houston Methodist aims to provide hands-on summer learning and stipend opportunities for high school students, community college students, and high school teachers. Participants explore digital health technologies, develop real-world technical skills, and engage with university and industry mentors.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nThe program features two tracks:<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<strong>Student Track (High School &amp; Community College):<\/strong> Students participate in either a Software or Hardware project pathway, students will rank their preferred track in the application.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<strong>Hardware Track:<\/strong> The focus of the Enabling AI in Healthcare via Hardware track is for participants to understand how hardware innovations transform healthcare, particularly through wearable devices and technologies that monitor, diagnose, and treat patients. Participants will explore the underlying principles of wearable technologies, medical devices, and sensors and gain hands-on experience with the tools that drive advancements in digital health.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<strong>Software Track:<\/strong> The focus of the Enabling AI in Healthcare via Software track is for the participants to understand how AI can detect disease by making predictions early and accurately. Students will receive in-depth hands-on training on the critical tools of PyTorch and other dominant tools in machine learning and AI.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<strong>Teacher Track:<\/strong> High school educators in math, physics, computer science, and CTE participate in a condensed version of both of the student tracks.
